Coenzyme Q10 for gum health.

Help for the 'good guy' bacteria in the fight against gum disease.

The mouth contains both beneficial and potentially harmful bacteria. The beneficial bacteria typically rely on Coenzyme Q10 also known as Ubiquinone for their energy provision whilst the harmful bacteria typically rely on Vitamin K for their energy supply.

Supplementation with Coenzyme Q10 can alter the balance of oral bacteria in favour of beneficial organisms whilst providing a less favourable environment for the bacteria responsible for gum disease.

Supplementation with Coenzyme Q10 is particularly in maintaining healthy Coenzyme Q10 levels in the tooth pockets of the gums where the bacteria responsible for plaque formation and gum disease may congregate.

CoQ10 helps in Ataxia.

Journal of Neurological Sciences 2006.

Several medical articles have reported benefits from high dose Coenzyme Q10 CoQ10 in the treatment of Ataxia, a neurological disease characterised by the inability to coordinate muscular movements.

Spanish researchers described the case of a 12 year old girl with Ataxia and Cerebellar Atrophy, the latter a degeneration of part of the brain.

She was found to have decreased activity in mitochondrial cellular activities involving CoQ10.

Treatment consisted of 2,500mg of CoQ10 daily, divided into three daily doses. After three months of supplementation, researchers noted improvements in movement and fine motor activities such as handwriting. The CoQ10 dosage was reduced to 1,500 mg daily. After 16 months of supplementation, the girl was able to walk without aid and signs of Cerebellar Atrophy disappeared.

Statins and the associated depletion of the essential co factor Coenzyme Q10

Third Conference of the International Coenzyme Q10 Association

By Peter H Langsjoen and Alena M Langsjoen

The depletion of the essential nutrient Coenzyme Q10 by the increasingly popular cholesterol lowering drugs HMG CoA Reductase Inhibitors or Statins has grown from a level of concern to one of alarm.

With ever higher Statin potencies and dosages and with a steadily shrinking target LDL cholesterol, the prevalence and severity of CoQ10 deficiency is increasing noticeably to the physicians in the trenches of front line patient care. An estimated 36 million Americans are now candidates for Statin drug therapy.

Statin induced CoQ10 depletion has been documented in 15 animal studies in six different animal species and has been shown to correlate with decreased ATP production, increased Ischemia Reperfusion injury and increased mortality.

There are 15 published trials on Statin induced CoQ10 depletion in humans. Of these 15 trials, nine were controlled trials, eight of which documented significant CoQ10 depletion.

Statin induced CoQ10 depletion has been shown to be associated with a fall in left ventricular function, an elevation of lactate to pyruvate ratio and an enhancement of LDL cholesterol oxidation. The current data on diastolic dysfunction further confirms the clinical importance of this drug nutrient interaction.

Statin induced CoQ10 depletion is well documented in animal and human studies with detrimental cardiac consequences in both animal models and human trials. Furthermore this drug induced nutrient deficiency is dose related and more notable in settings of pre existing CoQ10 deficiency such as in the elderly and in heart failure.

Finally Statin induced CoQ10 deficiency is completely preventable with supplemental CoQ10 with no adverse impact on the cholesterol lowering or anti inflammatory properties of Statin drugs.

We are currently in the midst of a congestive heart failure epidemic in the US, the causes of which are unclear. As physicians it is our duty to be absolutely certain that we are not doing harm to our patients by creating a widespread deficiency of a nutrient critically important for normal heart function.

Statins. The truth!

Daily Mail Tuesday January 30th 2007

Are Statins worth taking and how safe are they?

The official line is that patients should not stop taking Statins.

As Professor Peter Weisberg, Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation said last week, 'There is overwhelming evidence that Statins save lives by preventing heart attacks and strokes.'

But what if you are taking Statins because you’ve had a heart attack and are worried about potential side effects? Dr Peter Langsjoen a researcher at East Texas Medical Centre in Tyler Texas believes that he has a simple and practical solution.

Ever since Statins were launched its been known that they have also dampened production of a vital enzyme called Coenzyme Q10 also known as Q10. Like cholesterol, it is made in the liver. Q10 is found in almost every cell in the body and is essential for energy production in the muscles. So giving patients a supplement of Q10 could reduce the side effects.

Several years ago Langsjoen published a study in which patients with high levels of cholesterol but no evidence of heart disease were given the best selling Statin Lipitor.

A staggering 71% of them developed a problem with their heart muscle that goes with heart failure. Giving them a supplement of 300mg of Q010 reversed the problem for almost half of them.

Many people now take Q10 along with Statins as a precaution. If you are on Statins and feel they may be causing muscle related problems of brain fog, ofessor Golomb suggests asking you doctor about stopping the drug or reducing the dose. 'If he or she wont do that,' she says 'you could agree to increasing the dose for a little while and observe what happens to your symptoms.'

CO ENZYME Q10. GIVE YOUR BODY A FIGHTING CHANCE!

Co Enzyme Q10 is an antioxidant that has been shown to slow the rate of oxidative damage. It helps slow down the signs of ageing as well as converting food into energy.

Whilst the body can make Co Enzyme Q10, this ability declines with age, illness, high blood pressure, excess weight and heart problems but deficiencies can be addressed with a quality supplement.

ANTIOXIDANTS, THE HOLY GRAIL OF SUPPLEMENTS TO FIGHT KILLER DISEASES AND HOLD BACK THE YEARS! The most potent antioxidants around are COQ10, Grapeseed Extract, Pycnogenol and Klamath Blue Green Algae. Consuming a range of antioxidants provides the most complete protection against free radical damage, helping to neutralise most forms of free radicals.

ANTIOXIDANTS HELP FIGHT THE SIGNS OF AGEING FROM WITHIN. The free radicals both created in the body and by environmental factors including exposure to UV radiation, cosmic bombardment, ozone and nitrous oxide from car exhausts, heavy metals such as mercury, cadmium and lead, cigarette smoke, alcohol and saturated fats accelerate the ageing process. Antioxidants are super scavengers that neutralise the ageing effects of free radicals.

STATINS BLOCK THE BODYS ABILITY TO MAKE UBIQUINONE Q10 COMMONLY KNOWN AS COENZYME Q10. Whilst Statins lower LDL cholesterol levels they also create a dramatic drug induced depletion of UBIQUINONE 10 or COQ10 vital to maintain and support energy levels, heart health, mental health, a strong immune system and good dental health.

AS WE GET OLDER THE BODY'S SUPPLY OF VITAL UBIQUINONE Q10 COMMONLY KNOWN AS COENZYME Q10 DROPS. This is just when the body needs it the most! Extra UBIQUINONE 10 in the form of a supplement not only acts as a vital natural body fuel, but also acts as a powerful antioxidant, an immune system booster and helps strengthen the heart and fight heart disease.

A CELL THAT LACKS UBIQUINONE Q10 COMMONLY KNOWN AS COENZYME Q10 IS LIKE AN ENGINE WITHOUT A SPARK PLUG. Depleted levels of Ubiquinone Q10 can result in lower energy levels but supplements such as BIO QUINONE Q10 help maximise natural energy production to provide a long lasting kind of energy that gets you going from the time you wake, till you go to bed at night.

More and more people are taking Statins to control LDL cholesterol. But Statins can deplete vital CoQ10 to a level that increases the risk of heart failure. PHARMA NORD BIO-QUINONE Q10 GOLD. Specially developed ONE A DAY CAPSULE to complement Cholesterol Reducing Statin Medication.
